‘Lady in Red’ Hydrangea
Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Lady in Red’ #15,175

  1. Plant in semi-shade in well-drained soil.

  2. Dig a planting hole twice the size of the root ball.

  3. Remove the plant from the container and untangle the roots just inside the container.

  4. Level top of root ball with the ground.

  5. Surround plant with well-drained acidic, moisture-retentive soil and organic mulch.

  6. Gently pack the soil, then water well to remove air pockets.

  7. Maintain even moist conditions.

Fertilizing
The Lady in Red Hydrangea does not require much fertilization when planting, as it should already have some slow-release granules from the nursery where it was grown. If a water soluble fertilizer is used, simply add it to your regular watering schedule so the plant is not over-fertilized. For granular fertilizers, however, the Lady in Red hydrangea will only need a regular application once a year, usually in early spring before the new foliage appears. A granulated all-purpose 10-10-10 fertilizer is fine. Be sure not to over fertilize your hydrangea as this may inhibit flowering. Winter Care for Colder Zones
During the cold winter months, add 2-3 inches of mulch around the plant to protect the roots from harsh temperatures. Pine straw, leaves, or cypress mulch are all good organic materials that may be used in the garden. Since climates can vary, even among specific regions, please contact your preferred local garden center professional for recommendations for your garden.
